Checking slashdot i found this interesting article at newscientist.com, refering how to use anti-spammer technology that will push for development of AI recognition technology, so that they'd be actually doing some technological advance in their quest for full automated spamming. Quite clever idea, wondering what other similar approaches could be applied elsewhere.

home after yet another breakpoint, probably one of the best ever, great weather, some nice productions, had the oportunity to meet some new people like the legendary ra / nooon and my good netaudio friend jan robbe aka atomhead / entity. Also meeting up and idling around again with old friends is always cool. Even had a demo presented with my music, made by the friendly Still folks. My hand drawn picture didnt seem to do very well but here it is available for download. Other prod recommendations of the chef include cluster bomb / kooma, the new farbrausch demo, rokkasho / sqny and cognoscere / mfx. There were some other cool stuff on the amiga and size limited compos aswell, but you can find them easily in the breakpoint results.

the more i code and revamp the enoughrecords website internally, the more i seem to realize that more things about it are requiring a revamp. after a few days of ajax implementation and an insane amount of click copy paste crap to update all 218 releases, i seem to be where i was last week, except now there are a few (a lot) more stream radio and discog links creeping up around the corner and the page actually loads faster then it did before i overloaded it with these things. i just wish the damn website todo list would fucking disapear already! but there are still quite some things to get done concearning archive.org and i still havent considered the best way to handle the torrents that will be showing up.

when i'm done with this crap i can start trying out some new image experiments, since no one else seems to bloody bother to send me a new template, regardless of the numerous times i have asked different people for a little help to do it. it's really frustating to have to do all this monkey work alone. -_-

hmm.. it seems the folks at beachparty didnt manage to get deep running on their machines. It's actually a bug we have noticed but havent managed to iron out yet, having to do with exporting processing apps with opengl hack fullscreen (not native p5 fullscreen), what is odd about it is that it runs just fine when you execute it from processing, but running the export it wont pass the loading shader config file section on some machines, including one of out dev machines. We tried some logging to debug the issue but havent hit home yet. Also the oddness of the bug clashes against most logical theories to this regard. java awesomeness at it's best.

Eitherway, the demo seems to have not been officially released, i guess we should try and fix the fullscreen bug and send it to some other party, maybe blockparty. in the meantime here is the HD H264 AAC .mov of the final version - also available online at vimeo. And you can still try out the windows and macosx executables if you're feeling lucky. (EDIT: win32.zip has been updated, including the required dlls, macosx requires to install cg toolkit)

~~Source code will probably be out sometime next week. Hopefully we will know wtf is up with this odd exporting fullscreen issue by then - and release proper final binaries of the thing.~~

Barcamp pt Primavera09

went to barcamp this weekend, gave a short presentation talk on what the demoscene is, what we been doing with opengl & shaders in processing and showed our new demo called Deep (win32 - macosx - video) to the audience, very positive response out of the circa 100 people crowd, only a dozen previously knew what the demoscene was, circa two dozen knew processing.

overall it was pretty nice conference. heard some interesting talks and brought back home with me some important contacts and ideas. seems creating a hacklab / coworking place in coimbra will likely happen in a nearby future, would be cool.

Spent the weekend down in Portalegre for the Festival Animatu's extension. Gave a little showcase about the demoscene to a dozen people after plenty of hassles with the venue, things got handled pretty ok when it mattered to resolve things but i'm still left with the impression that i'm wasting my time going back and forth instead of focusing on producing stuff. Well, meeting some new interesting people was nice and seing old friends again was great, but i wonder.

Back at home i just read a mail from Frame, one of the first releasers at enough whom i had completly lost contact by now, which, along with other small things, was quite motivating to make me want to revamp the website, to freshen things up abit and update the usability and design of the thing somewhat. but it's already time for bed, hope sometime this week i'll have some time to handle it.

enrmp203 - Proyecto de Prueba / Void>Null - Proyecto de Prueba & Void>Null
Proyecto de Prueba is an ambient project, with some elements taken from drone and concrete music. Goat and Raven had their own thoughts about antimatter while praising the dronelords in the city of Córdoba, Argentina, when in some obscure night of the year 2008 AD, they decided to release their first demo. It was untitled, but the fanbase call it "7", because of a strange stain on the upper right corner of the cover art. A split with Void>Null was released on February, 2009. In this album, we can feel how they have moved to a more traditional ambient sound, but keeping some sources from concrete music.
Void>Null was a drone doom tribute band. Their main and only influences were Sunn O))) and Stephen O'Malley. On 2007, they released a 3-tracks album, Alžbeta Bátoriová-Nádasdy. Later, in 2008, the vocalist of the band, Lambda Nulli, passed away, so Corvus Mellori, the other member, decided that Void>Null shouldn't exist any more as an active music entity. Anyways, he had a couple of unreleased tracks, so here we have some of them: another version of Bathory Erzsebet and Striborgian, a totally unheard song.

refactor me beautiful

coding at work was horrible today, refactoring stuff to fit others architecture better. feels like taking steps backwards, hope it pays off in the long run.

so i got home sick and tired of coding and ended up deciding to code some more, playing with the optimizer yet again, but it's still generating crap results, i consider loads of ways to improve things but they all involve restructuring the kernel and i get weary of getting lost in the code. maybe some other day.

mild hangover. but great weather to go outside to grab some food so it's cool.
yesterday we were at work finishing up the whiskey bottle from the rushed deadline project from early december, getting ready to hit the bars for the weekly reset when we get a call from a customer who slightly forgot to test things in the hardware in due time and now was blaming our code for his problems.
a) sent us the wrong hardware info before hand
b) didnt inform us the hardware specs had changed
c) didnt have anyone around who could setup the new hardware properly
d) failed to remember to test things _before_ the actual event
e) we delivered weeks prior and everything had been fully revised and approved by them

long story short, we had to spend couple hours friday night haggling phone calls and hacking our code to work under their new hardware. 45 minutes was a fair estimation of code work required, and it was actually fun. :D later at night we closed the bar at 3am. :)

in other events: got bucketloads of enoughrecords demos to release and listen and reply to, which have been stacking up through the week; falésia 3 got kick started; cant get a hold of dipswitch to get enough dubs 2 rolling; and a harsh ebm band from a couple friends, who released through enoughrecords, CAD seems to have split up, which by some bizare reason (since none of the members actually talked in public about it) managed to turn itself into an international soap opera. :D

last but not least, the optimizer for processing has been abit improved but its still giving crap results compared to what it should, im quite frustrated with the thing, think it needs a complete remodel. im probably gonna let it mould in a corner for a while.

been doing some new sounds in buzz but the microphone cut'n'chops and random die outs get frustrating. need to move out of parallels desktop for good. guess puredata is the way but i'll so terribly miss the buzzmachines, especially now when buzz is being developed again. why cant they just do a mac port? qt got freeware'd and everything :(

processing optimizer

seems that the genetic programmed monalisa i was trying to beat was actually made with 50 polygons not 50 tris. eitherway, had to adapt the optimizer alot to mutate polygons (and 3d trianglestrips) instead of mere int and float values. still no decent results yet, but it's getting there, need to finetune the thresholds. next step volumes and splines.

winter holidays been nice so far, gave me some time to release some new stuff on enough and answer some pending feedback emails, hope to still mess with puredata or finish the port to processing of my optimizer.

went to matanças festival on 23rd, a festival dedicated to the true worship of satan through music invocation, Lost Gorbachevs were an awesome mix of jazz and grindcore, Cabidela played some awesome necromantic rooster black metal, sacrificing a plate of aletria live on stage, Morte shopping was decent enough to receive an invite to participate on Falésia 3, Brutos da Natureza aparently sacrificed a wax baby jesus with knifes but only saw the last few minutes of the gig :( Besta Bode did some sort of post-metal hardcore in shaman robes. was fun. the free aletria and chocolate cookies and cake were also quite good. Took the oportunity to get my copy of lvsitania enxebre and sign my soul without reading the fineprint to whatever label that is supposed to publish my wolfenmond remix.

Went to check a local conference on interactive digital art called Artech this weekend. Found nothing new to me, some of the posters and exhibits were marginally interesting, most of the presentations felt somewhat stuck in the past or simply not pushing the developed technology to do anything really astounding, either artistic or tech wise. Some of it was worth checking out, most of it was not, some were downright insulting to our time. Portugal feels quite behind in this area, it's quite a shame. But kudos for the organization for atleast having something of this kind in Porto, hope the quality will improve in the following years.

i'm leaving helsinki tomorow, it's been nice to meet all the suomiscene friends again and even a few new folks. was defnitly cool to idle with the kooi and cpu folks once more!

altparty in itself was pretty nice except for some organizational "features" like not being able to drink in front on the bigscreen, the schedule delays and the epic fail at a smooth democompo session. lots of people were present only to see front242, they gave a nice show, i was expecting something more energetic to be honest, but it was still a pretty decent concert to watch.

my presentation at the demoscene seminar on friday went pretty smoothly despite a few flaws on the slides. people gave me some good feedback on it atleast.

the exhibition of the sketchwork was very "i dont know", since no one talked to me about it, i guess it was worth setting up, atleast some people were walking around looking at things and i guess its always positive to show your work.

the kdes vs ps concert at altparty started very late so we didnt have much audience, i reckon about 20 people were actually paying attention, on my end it was an awesome gig, managed to fuck my voice from all the shouting and growling and screaming :) i liked it alot and was very happy with the feedback received. managed to crash buzz 3 times during the performance but tatar and dom covered me very nicely so it was a very smooth gig, droid's help with the visuals was also cool.

the other kdes vs ps concert, at the art gallery on monday, was also pretty interesting, buzz crashed alot more, i only actually managed to play something like 1/3 of the concert, in the middle we had a few technical problems, including a speaker that got fried, but in the last 15 minutes things were stable again and the sound turned out quite good, even if i could barely hear myself at that point. also pretty good feedback once again so i'm quite happy with the experience. greypark was quite nice! elfh was too low volume and needing to optimize his tracklist.

afterparties with random sceners have also been great. sort of mini holidays for me. extremely expensive but extremely nice :)

presentation at LCD was great! i really liked the space and what they're doing with it. lots of attendance, 100% new faces, and all of them seemingly into what i'm all about: experimenting with audiovisuals technology. i actually beta tested my altparty presentation on them instead of doing the typical demoshow thing, which worked quite decently despite being a tad more self centered, but then again one knows better about the scene from knowing the people not the productions. they all got a fairly decent idea of what the demoscene is all generally about and what i'm more specifically into, and they seemed to like both, atleast i got plenty of positive feedback and a bunch of new contacts. actually got me excited again about doing audiovisuals, havent been for quite a while. i wish this thing had happened a few months ago actually, had a very interesting job proposal right after, i defnitly wouldnt move to work in coimbra if i hadnt already comited to it. oh well, murphy's law.

speaking of the new job in coimbra, i still havent found a place to rent. it seems to be alot harder to find something in the south area, spent all day yesterday phoning people, only to hear a dozen of "it's already taken", i'm catching a train in a few minutes and drop by to sort some more burocracy stuff out but i doubt i'll manage to find a place in time (i.e. today) to get the financial re-allocation support, we'll see.

off to lisbon in the afternoon, helsinki first thing tomorow morning.

just managed to get the tascam fireone mic linein working in jeskola buzz running on parallels desktop on the mac via asio4all ^_^ i can use the mic without latency chops and lags now, awesomeness on wheels. took the oportunity to adapt / rehearse a few setups for the battle versus kdes on saturday. still have to try a few more things tomorow and i have no clue what tatar is preparing but atleast on my side things are shapping up for a cool gig in helsinki :)

back home from festival animatu in beja. just as last year, it turned out once again a great festival to attend and meet new people who are already in or trying to get into the whole audiovisuals / digital animation thing. had quite a few interesting chats with different people. additionaly, there were plenty of people at the demoscene competition screening on friday (atrium won btw). the beats play free djset on saturday subverted just enough the rock classic and latin house music mentality to allow me to play what i was hoping to showcase, but im defnitly not very turned on by djing, always seems to be more about social engineering than actually chosing the right track for the right audience and i'm not into that.

presented the presentation at PSCS in lisbon, no one asked anything in the end, i'm not quite sure what that translates into (it's usually a bad sign) but i'm certain that all academic research stuff feels like useless statistic bullshit to me right now. eitherway, when i arrived home yesterday i went straight to univ to order some new thesis covers to get the replacements done with before leaving for finland, but ofcourse the place closed for moving to another location, completly screwing up any possible timing to get this done before november.

in the meantime i finally got a nearby job application replied. only a month too late. now that i already commited to moving to coimbra - which, coincidently or not is temporarily on hold pending the resolve of the social welfare regulation bullshit, which i was due to get notified by wednesday, and ofcourse havent received an answer from yet.

so today i invested my efforts in preparing stuff for animatu, instead of playing videos on my mac i could play them on evil's machine and use my mac to show some slides. i suddenly got an epiphany to do some moving stuff in processing out of vic's engine, so the rest of the afternoon was spent figuring out how to print text under opengl in processing, until i quit and prepared 9 textures with text instead.

to switch between both machines i need one of the two vga switches we have at the inércia hardware storage. unfortunatly rup crashed his bike yesterday and was too tired to drop by after work tonight, so i'll have to find him tomorow before leaving for beja. i'm estimating inevitable delays.

to make things even more joyful, on saturday night, when im suposed to dj the bpf thing in beja, there is a gig i wanted to check in lisbon, but ofcourse i can't bail from responsibilities now, nor do i seem to be capable of finding a replacement dj in time. considering murphy's law i'm reckoning my aloted time (2 to 4 am) will probably get skewed or snatched or muzzled by the owners.

about helsinki, i'll be arriving on friday (not wednesday like i wrongly noted on a previous entry) and will get whisked away directly into a presentation and an exhibit (both of which are not fully prepared yet)

my dark psychic abilities are improving: this morning i managed to burn myself cooking by merely thinking about calamares, and not actually handling them.

luckily my one hand typing skills are still top notch so i managed to handle some of the industrial PT compilation stuff that was pending, and revise the PSCS workshop presentation that shall be presented on tuesday. any of you lisbon people up for dinner and drinks? get in touch and convince me to stay overnight. but i guess everyone will work on wednesday so i'll probably just come back north same day.

got tired of staring at computer screen so went down to casa viva to check out a friends punk band called eskizofrenicos, moshpit provided a nice workout :D also caught some parts of coluna de ferro, didnt manage to see the other acts though but it was fun. :)

in other news, the burocracy of resolving my situation with social welfare seems to be more complicated then anticipated. in a nutshell, i need a paper that says i never paid or what months i have unpaid. it's needed for my new job by some bizarre reason which i still haven't quite understood. i only worked for 9 months so, theoretically, i shouldnt have to pay any social security, since during the first year of registered activity everyone is essempt (or whatever it's spelled). but i made the fatal mistake of not registering myself at social welfare (somehow the thought of having to wake up at 8:30 and stand in line for an hour just to get a card that i didn't need for anything at the time, never seemed that quite appealing to me back then) and further more slightly forgot to cease activity (actually i tried several times online but the form was broken, plus some folks had promised me additional work, which dragged on but never pulled through) so now i'm supposed to pay for social welfare for 10 months i didnt even work. well i guess i'll have that money back when i retire so whatever. problem is now that i stand in line for an hour to get my social welfare card, they won't give me a paper saying what i should or have to pay couz i'm not registered in the system. so, ok, please register me. it takes 2 to 3 months to get registered they tell me. so i ask the job, do you _really_ need it _now_. and they reply yes, because it's the only way i can prove officially that i'm truly unemployed and/or looking for my first job. so.. moral of the story: i'm required to stay unemployed another 2 to 3 months (since i can't get the job without the number) until i get a paper charging me for welfare taxes for a job on months during which i didn't get income. i should just go to the job center offices instead and ask to get on the doll. :) so the house lookout is on hold at the moment, in the meantime i'll go back to social welfare on monday and try my luck with a different clerk demanding an express solution, if they can't write down a new number and calculate multiples of rip off on the fly, i'll go to finances request a late closure of activity instead, to include the months i never got an income and then back to the welfare office to request a debt free card.

the other day i had this brilliant new job idea: burocrat. you'd go around town with a scooter taking burocractic chores from people with lack of time to handle them, then stop by all burocratic stop points and exchange them with the person who would wake up the next day at 8:30 am to handle them all in a swoop to return to the scooter guy which would continue it's route mailing everyones documents and final instructions at their address. for a small nominal fee per service. it could actually turn a profit, you only need max dozen employees to make it work for an entire city of customers who line up for hours every single day while they should be at work. hell, why not a state service even? i know quite a lot of people who would prefer to handle burocrats in their own home in priveliged schedule instead of having to wake at 8:30 am and wait in line for an hour. are you telling me no politician ever managed to think about this and talk with the right people to make it viable? we certainly got the technology to handle it cost effective..

then again, i am talking about institutions which, in 2008, still ask you to fill out a paper form and come back the next day to deliver it, not to mention lack a simple scanner to do instant digitalization of the documents they reoccuringly ask for photocopies. kinda hard to expect innovation and automation from these folks. :S it's quite frustrating for an informatics engineer with training on automation of work flow to witness these atrocities in our own public system / society and not being able to do anything about it. please please redesign, optimize, pretty please.

paper submission for workshop was accepted on thursdays, spent my friday doing some minor rewrites on the thesis and failing to do any acceptable music in between, spent my saturday socializing at a friends wedding, so sunday and monday were all invested in finishing the final version of the paper following the reviewers suggestions, the deadline for the final delivery is today. which was met and mailed to co-writers for revision, waiting on them to tell me they have no time to even look at it before submitting.

finished with all the required communications for upcoming enoughrecords releases and general catchup interweb websurfing stuff before 2am, so i had this brilliant idea of trying some new musicmaking on the mac before hitting the sack.

except that once i launched the mac i felt an urge to test if the timeless demo linux port would work on macosx. which required to compile, which required sdl_sound, which is not macosx intel supported yet, which led me to download the latest version and try to port, which required to compile, which led me to download the latest mikmod framework, which got installed and included in the project but sdl_sound linker still wont recognize the lib's functions. which wasted me 2 hours of my life. atleast im learning more stuff about xcode, like how it wont import codewarrior projects without codewarrior installed, and where all the header, framework, library searchpaths stuff gets altered. i'd still rather wish it would just work.

had to walk home in the pouring rain from a nearby concert tonight. a fellow netlabel activist called tiago morgado was playing, doing some electro-acoustic experimental stuff with a violin and some mates on counterbass and sax, had it's moments, was worth the bother.

getting soaked by walking in the rain still feels quite wonderful, rain is nice, i like rain. i always did like the rain but somehow nowdays it's not really as inspiring as it used to be. i guess it's all part of playing the game but it's a shame really. i miss that naive long side of my personality that got slaughtered from blindly trusting others.

finally got some time to go through the siggraph08 papers properly, found plenty of very interesting stuff as always.

i still have a very contradictory feeling bubbling inside me, on one hand this all state of the art research checking got me thinking of applying for a research position in a more serious project than the ones i been involved with, projects like this gameworld thing at tu wien cgg for example are exactly the kind of serious stuff i been considering doing for the past oh, i dunno, 10 years, and i seem to finally meet the requirements now. yet, i hesitate tremendously, mostly out of fear, of either not being accepted, or worse, being accepted and not being able to live up to the expectations.

i read these other researchers publications and they all seem to possess this mathematical savvyness and english eloquence that i do not. i easily understand the concepts explained and how to implement it, but i can't see myself ever writting in that form or discussing things with anyone using those terms and kind of equations. in my head it's all in an abstract form with self-coined synthetic "thingie" terms for refering to the 8 word descriptions others use, in my head it's completly obvious what i'm refering to when i use the non formally appliable terms that i do. unfolding it into a formal description others can understand is a bloody nightmare, it usually ends up on an overly complex sentence which doesn't really help anyone understand, possibly even confusing them more. and getting the right terms for the overly complex sentences is even worse, which is a key factor why i always detested writting reports and why writting the thesis i just finished was so fucking annoying.

but i fear abstraction and obfuscation are not representative of any superior or different ways to operate knowledge, they're just signs of lazyness in getting accoustumed to standardized communication channels. i'm required to subvert my individuality if i want to be understood. perhaps i been developing my "artistic" creative side of the brain too much to still care about being understood by the system since i only feel it a frustrating chore. a game that i won't ever be able to master, and thus i wonder if it's truly worth playing..

its been a very introspective week.. managed to do all the daily household chores, meet some local friends, educate myself with the latest news, culture and personal research interests. watch a couple interesting or entertaining movies and finish playing shadow of the collosus. i bothered to shave despite not having to actually leave home. the minor thesis revisions are well within schedule for delivery. all enoughrecords stuff is more or less up to date. cut some going nowhere issues from my todo list, and even found the time to update my website with the latest releases.
but somehow i still feel somewhat suicidal.. or maybe it's just loneliness.. i don't know exactly but things don't really feel as meaningful as they should. nothing overly alarming to what i'm used to feeling, but still.. i ain't enjoying this life, should defnitly change something about it.

dipswitch had no router hub at his place so i took the oportunity to get obsessed with finding open wifi for my mac. the standard probing system sucks ass ofcourse, so i googled stuff up and got kismet installed to properly sniff for access points. i found quite a few but most of them were private encrypted, so i started wondering, how secure is wifi nowdays? and i was somewhat disturbed to realize that most access points still use basic 128 WEP encryption, which reading a few homepages it seems quite clear that it isnt that safe at all. it's quite easy to crack the wep key, just need a couple days injecting for some IVs or doing ARP requests, and you can even spoof your mac address so the router will think your transmitting from someone else's machine. so basically, in 2008, you can still piggyback your neighbours internet without leaving a trace, it's quite scary in a way, luckily i don't have a wifi router at home.

in a few hours i´ll be flying back home, im still wondering what the fuck to do with my life, besides delivering the thesis and replying to emails about audiovisual colaborations that is. got no job nor any real palpable clue on what to do with my free time that´ll ever score me a nice one. only thoughts that come to mind is doing a dynamic demo to win altparty and find a gig in iceland to get some sort of excuse to travel there. other than that its a loud and damp blur of fear and frustration in front of me right now. guess i should apply for something that pays decent and move somewhere else to get entertained with the rearrangment of life for a while, but i have no freaking clue what to pick out of all the possibilities, i feel there is nothing really labelled "ps" on it, just "work monkey, boring tech" stuff, which would be nice for a few months i guess, but i dont see how it´ll keep me sane in the long term, and thats a quite depressing scenario on itself, the thought that i do need something to feel good about my life.. in the meantime the left and right sides of my brain keep wondering when they´ll ever have a chance to merge and live happily ever after, but it seems complicated, like most things in life.

it seems in an attempt to break the curse of rob, rob is jarig got voted first on the compo and our demo came out second, which could be considered somehow insulting if you think too much about it, but wtf, its rob is jarig and we got the 1st place prizes anyways so who cares really? sadly the prize money is not enough to pay altparty plane tickets for everyone i wished to drag there (fuckings to volkenhall owner doubling the rent costs) but now i have an intel compiler suite license (yay.. wondering wtf i´ll ever need it for), a new tshirt, and a mystery prize for inerciademoparty demo compo, which will be 19-21 september in case you havent been paying attention.

evoke has been nice, got severily wasted on the first night, to the point of getting a revelation that i shouldnt really be such a party waster. after the hangover passed i even managed to finish the demo before the deadline: nothing special in terms of contents but the result is interesting enough to be worth sharing i think, unfortunatly not many other entries got entered into the compo so we might even actually win something out of this one week folery, the prize giving is in 10 hours or so, crossing fingers, it would be nice since we're all unemployed and needing to book our tickets for altparty :)

nice walk by the lakeside park today but now we're back home watching some productions from lcp and assembly. some nice stuff.
regarding the demo, the soundtrack beta 1 seems to be ready, fooled around with some effects on the timeline and layers editor just to get the hang of things abit, we should be able to do something interesting out of this material.
and as for the summer of code, i also managed to figure out how the JTree things work exactly, want to add one to the oncd interface thing, java feels so overly bloated with stuff, i find it odd how can people spend so many years evolving a platform without making a simple lightweight parallel implementation. so much documentation and tutorial consult time wasted for such an easy thing.
been discussing some aspects of social networking hub.. makes me wonder how many people actually get anything useful out of my less private online presence. most of it is probably audiovisual viewing tips i guess, but i really like the concept of recommending employers for a certain task, just cant seem to be able to turn it into an economical activity without sacrificing my morals, i wonder if it'll ever be possible actually.
is other news i realized im not all that happy with the wolfenmond noise remix, so i need to try something else.
and last but not least it seems the inercia partyplace might be in jeopardy, have a couple backup plans to easily solve that though.

idling in milan i managed to get some summer stuff done: new noise remix for wolfenmond, installed eclipse and coded some more on the 3 year old zombie project called oncd, and got pd+gem working and figured out. hooray for hangovers in milan.
oh yeh, one man nation did a blog entry about his tour mentioning the porto gig. :)

rediscovered hmm while burning a cdr with erik's miasmah mix to play as dj random intermission at sintra in a couple days. so i'm now drinking beer at 5:55 am listening to hmm, listening to the birds and the very ocasional car, watching the fullmoon go yellow and the sun rising. finished the wolfenmond - ymir (ps soft glitch remix) a few minutes ago, and the paper for the workshop seems ready to me, waiting on feedback from the co-authors to submit. feeling quite lonely and demotivated, can't seem to shake the feeling that i'm wasting my life doing unimportant things. it's a nice sunrise though.

overfitting for ros n=10 i managed to get the accuracy down to 10^-7 on 80% of the tests, doesn't scale that well to ros n=30 though, neither does it reach the cec05 goal of 10^-8. -_- wondering how it'll perform on the weierstrass, defnitly need to hyper heuristic it to figure out the optimum config for that.

have to finish a paper for a workshop out of the feedback of the rejected papers, focusing more on the application to expeditious modeling, stating clearly the algorithm isnt aimed to dethrone cms-es and replacing the multi possible configs benchmark tests with a cec2005 problem should do the trick - trying to get the algorithm tuned to perform below 10^-8 in rosenbrock n=30, only managed 10^-2 so far but it's a thin line.
also have to finish a release candidate 3 of the thesis itself by the end of july, now thinking of only submitting the thesis after the holidays, in august. i'm kinda tired of having to rewrite things and cite references that i never consulted for every definition that i need to formaly declare, also keep getting negative feedback for my blunt unacademic and overly summarized english. i hate writting reports. i'm having heavy doubts if i should really care about r&d academic stuff anymore for the future, it doesn't seem very compatible with my persona right now. -_-
but i been brainstorming some more on parallel and phased evolutionary strategies to implement on the algorithm, running a more scatter search nested partitions style phase in the begining to feel the search space better before defining the best convergance tactic, or maybe assigning a percentage of the generation to behave differently, its been used in genetic algorithms (multi crossover techniques). just wondering how it could be rigged to self-adapt to the convergance dynamics..
